We are a group of organizations which develops actions with incidence in social and political practices in Argentina in order that children and adolescents actively exercise their citizenship and fully enjoy their rights, according to the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
 

Penal System for Infancy

A recent report carried out by UNICEF and the Human Rights Secretariat denounces that 20.000 children and adolescents are deprived of their liberty in Argentina . 87,1% is confined for risky situations and only 12,1% for penal causes.
Press media from the province of Córdoba make clear that the report does not include the 3.438 children who are institutionalized in that Province, also for risky situations. If that was so, the number would rich up to 23.000 children.

Children imprisoned in Santa Fe: the CTC of Rosario denounces serious conditions before the ICHR

The Coordinator of Prison Work (Coordinadora de Trabajo Carcelario - CTC) of Rosario submitted the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (ICHR) an accusation against the Province of Santa Fe . The document points out serious violations that take place at the Centre of Transitory Lodging (Centro de Alojamiento Transitorio - CAT), the Institute of Rehabilitation of Adolescents Rosario (Instituto de Rehabilitation del Adolescente Rosario – IRAR) and police stations.

Universal Assignation for Infancy

The organizations of our country which work for the rights of children promote the promulgation of the Law for the Universal Assignation for Infancy, also known as Citizen Income. There are in Congress at least five elaborated projects, which propose the distribution of an income for each child or adolescent under 18 years old, for an amount of money which will guarantee their development, and through mechanisms that will prevent any kind of patronage system.
The serious situation of children in Argentina requires the prompt promulgation of this law, that although it does not solve the main problems, it brings possibilities and opens a way to children.
 

Colectivo Annual Meeting – October 2006

Children and people related to the Colectivo member organizations joined in Buenos Aires to exchange ideas and report on their incidence actions in different provinces and towns of our country. They also took part in workshops of Sensitiveness about Programming in Rights of Children, they evaluated strategies for the communication in the net and they discussed about the Penal System for Infancy.

Almost blind and whereabouts unknown

Lucas Matías Mendoza, convicted to life imprisonment for offences he committed while being under 18 years old, inaugurated the series of 14 identical violations to the Convention on the Rights of the Child perpetrated in the country, he disappeared the last 5 th of August from the penal institution where he expected to enter into a transitory freedom regime.

The serious visual incapacity that Lucas suffers, the 10 years of imprisonment served, his imminent arrival to the benefit of gradual freedom, arouses suspicion and concerns on an episode that we find hasty to qualify as an escape.
